Earnings season overpowered AI anxiety on Wall Street on Tuesday, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 529 points to close at 47,664 and the S&P 500 added 0.8 percent to 6,740. The Nasdaq rose 0.4 percent, and futures pointed higher overnight.

The session belonged to old-economy names reporting real results. Hasbro jumped 11.2 percent to a 52-week high after earnings blew past estimates. 3M climbed 5.8 percent after raising its outlook. Equifax surged 11.3 percent and KeyCorp added 4.5 percent, while Coca-Cola rose 3.8 percent. It was, in market shorthand, a day for companies that make things.

Energy keeps the tape nervous

Not everything was calm. Brent crude jumped 8.6 percent to $108.79 a barrel as Middle East tensions flared, and gold added $35 to $4,370 an ounce as investors hedged. The Hormuz ship sinkings have put energy security back at the center of the market narrative, and traders are pricing in disruption risk they had largely ignored a month ago.

The split screen defines this market: industrial and consumer earnings compounding quietly while AI infrastructure financing comes under growing scrutiny. Hot inflation data earlier in the month whipped about $80 billion off AI-linked market value, and the rebound since has been selective, not broad.

What comes next

The consumer will get its say soon. With student loan defaulters facing private debt collectors after the midterms, spending power at the margin is under pressure, even as the headline indexes sit near records. The tension between strong corporate results and stretched households is the story to watch into year end.

For now, the bulls have the tape. Zacks’ company news roundup listed Tuesday’s standouts as a clean sweep for the old economy, and with futures green, Wednesday opens with momentum firmly on the side of earnings over narratives.
