Footage reportedly showing Texas Senate hopeful Ken Paxton partying in Dubai with two men facing federal fraud charges has landed in the final stretch of one of the country’s most closely watched races, raising fresh questions about the Republican nominee’s judgement just weeks before voters cast their ballots.

What the footage reportedly shows

According to reporting published this week, a national newspaper obtained video of Paxton ringing in 2025 from a luxury high-rise balcony in Dubai, watching fireworks alongside a woman who was not his wife and two American businessmen, Anosh Ahmed and Sameer Suhail. Months earlier, federal prosecutors had indicted the pair over an alleged scheme to embezzle about $15 million from a hospital, and both men were wanted by US Marshals at the time of the gathering, according to the reporting. Ahmed also faced separate allegations tied to a far larger testing-fraud case.

Records cited in the reporting also show that Ahmed contributed roughly $190,000 to Paxton’s Senate campaign, including a $25,000 donation that arrived days after his indictment. A spokesperson for Paxton said he had been politically persecuted but did not directly address the Dubai trip.

Why it matters for Texas

The timing could hardly be more sensitive. Early voting begins on October 19, and recent surveys show the Texas Senate contest between Paxton and his Democratic rival, James Talarico, running within the margin of error. Paxton, the state’s attorney general, has survived scandals that would have ended most careers — from impeachment proceedings to criminal charges — but strategists say images of a candidate celebrating alongside indicted fugitives cut through in ways policy attacks rarely do.

The seat is a must-hold for Texas Republicans and a genuine target for Democrats, who have not won a statewide race in Texas in decades. With both parties pouring money into the final weeks, the footage gives Talarico’s allies fresh ammunition — and gives voters a vivid closing argument to weigh as midterm campaigning intensifies.
